East Riding of Yorkshire Council

The floods of June 2007 hit the East Riding of Yorkshire with devastating effect with 6,242 homes being damaged by floodwater. The resources of the East Riding of Yorkshire Council were stretched to the limit. Once the scale of the flooding was apparent all non-essential services were suspended and staff diverted to assisting with the prevention of flooding to properties and the massive clean up programme that would follow. Many staff were affected by the flooding, some being unable to return to their homes and having to move into caravans. Despite this, staff worked well beyond the call of duty to help alleviate the problems being suffered by residents.
